A Matter Of Truth is the first, national, survivor-driven organization
committed to obtaining federal intervention and assistance in unveiling the truth about religious personnel and their institutions
who are responsible for the sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults.

Experience and knowledge have convinced us that abuse by religious is epidemic in our country.
The time of tolerating, concealing, and ignoring this abuse and its secrecy
for the sake of protecting religious and civil institutions must come to an end.

No religious personnel, no religious institution, and no civil official is above the Law,
and if the Laws are inadequate then it is our duty as United States citizens to see to their change.

Urgent News From Rev. Tom Doyle:

I am working on some new cases involving kids who were abused in orphanages. I have a few documents on orphanages as well as a couple books. Could you use your web pages etc. to spread the word that I am looking for documentation such as articles or books about abuse in orphanages. Thanks. Tom

To all of you who have responded to John's website in response to my request for information about orphanages, I want to express my very sincere thanks. The response has been fantastic thus far with much more information than I expected. The quantity if awesome and the quality exceptional. What started off as a look-see as to what was out there in order to bolster a case I am working on has evolved. For years I have known about sexual abuse by nuns, priests and brothers in orphanages and special homes. I was an expert on a number of cases from a Vermont orphanage in 1997 and was also involved in the Mount Cashel (Newfoundland) debacle. Perhaps the most heart wrenching case was that of Joey Busam, a special needs man who was in the care of a small group of Brothers in Ohio until he contracted AIDS from them. Joey died several years later but his family carry on the fight for justice in his name. I have also been involved in cases from Ireland.

My plan is to go through all the material and prepare a summary with a key to sources. I want to circulate my findings in hopes of igniting a fire to get attention for the thousands who have been sexually, physically and spiritually assaulted and abused by nuns, brothers, priests or lay employees in orphanages. These are perhaps the most vicious cases because the victims are trapped with no where to turn for help.

My deep gratitude to al of you who have been so kind as to respond. I will do my best to use the material for the most effective purposes. Tom Doyle
